Welcome to our shipyard in Ter Aar, nestled in the heart of the Dutch lake district. Here, we finalize the boats that arrive from Sri Lanka, ensuring that they meet our high standards before delivery. Our facility is equipped to offer full-service storage, maintenance, and comprehensive care for your Menken vessel. In our showroom, we proudly display all our models and have several boats ready for test sails.
Since 1996, naval architect Martin de Jager has been our dedicated yacht designer, responsible for crafting all our models. Beyond the general and lines plan, he handles laminate construction, structural calculations, ergonomics, component selection, and intricate details. His technical expertise and experience are pivotal to the nautical quality of our boats. In each model, he has masterfully translated the lines and experience of a historical ship type into a comfortable, appealing, and distinctive boat.
When it comes to engineering we prefer to engineer in the drawing office. With well-thought instructions you don't mess up on the workfloor.
Martin de Jager has been our regular yacht architect since the beginning in 1996, designing all motorboats. Besides the general plan and line plan, he also draws laminate construction, structural calculations, ergonomics, component selection and the finest detailing. His technical knowledge and experience determine the boatbuilding quality of our boats. In terms of style, he has managed to translate the lines and experience of a historic ship type into a comfortable, appealing and distinctive boat in every model.
Our Flyer33 is designed by Dykstra Naval Architects, commissioned by a former world champion in the Cadet-Class.
Over 27 years ago, Bernard Menken observed that labor-intensive work in Western European countries was becoming unaffordable, significantly impacting Dutch yacht building. His Sri Lankan business partner, Neil Fernando, was eager to build boats for the Western European market. This led to the swift creation of Menken Maritiem's business plan: instead of cutting costs or simplifying designs, they aimed to add value by embracing the labor-intensive construction of more beautiful, fuller, and richer boats. This approach elevates the pleasure of boating, which we call "sailing happiness".
At Menken Maritiem, we design boats that stand out - timeless, stylish, and built for pure enjoyment on the water. To ensure the highest quality at a competitive price, we partner with Neil Marine, a leading fibreglass boatbuilder. With over 50 years of expertise and a state-of-the-art production facility in Negombo, Sri Lanka, Neil Marine brings our designs to life with precision craftsmanship. Every boat is built to the highest international standards, ensuring durability, performance, and effortless grace.
Thanks to this collaboration, we can offer exceptional boats without compromise. Neil Marine's efficient production and skilled workforce allow us to focus on innovation and design, ensuring that every Menken Maritiem vessel is a reflection of our passion for boating. With a growing international fleet and a reputation for excellence, we continue to set new standards - so you can enjoy carefree sailing, wherever your journey takes you.
